On January 24th and 25th, all four clinics came together for an exciting two day Mulligan Concept course taught by Rick Crowell, a Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP). The course was the first of a three part series that our clinicians will attend in order to become CMP’s, of which there are only 356 worldwide (with our very own John Mart being one of those!). Rick gladly escaped Duluth, Minnesota for a few beachfront days at the Isle of Palms, the site chosen for our course. Not a bad view, huh?
Our clinicians spent these two days learning and perfecting the manual therapy techniques developed by Brian Mulligan of New Zealand. Why is this important to you, our patients? These “Mobilization With Movement” (MWM) techniques are used to decrease a patient’s pain during a functional activity (i.e. shoulder pain with reaching overhead, elbow pain with tennis, neck pain when turning head). Our therapists learned simple yet effective and pain free joint “repositioning” techniques that will help treat different types of upper extremity problems including neck, elbow, rib and upper back pain, shoulder dysfunction and postural issues… and HEADACHES! These manual therapy and taping techniques were created to restore functional and pain free motion in patients by retraining joints to move the way they were designed to move in the first place.
